Luke Perry Dead at 52

Actor Luke Perry, star of Beverly Hills 90210 and Riverdale, passed away on Monday at the age of 52.

Variety is reporting that Perry was “was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends,” his rep said in a statement. “The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Perry was hospitalized on February 28 after suffering a massive stroke at his home in Sherman Oaks, California. Coincidentally, this was the same day that Fox announced a six-episode revival of 90210. The series will feature returning cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling. Perry’s return was not announced at that time.

Perry had two runs on 90210. The first was from 1990 to 1995 with the second from 1998 until the show ended in 2000. Over the course of his career, he starred in multiple projects including 1992’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He also starred in the HBO drama OzWindfallJeremiah, and more. But in an attempt to avoid being typecast, he made several guest appearances on hit shows including Will & GraceSpin City, and Family Guy

Recently, Perry successfully returned to TV dramas with a regular role on the CW show Riverdale. He played Archie Andrews’ conservative, old-fashioned father, Fred.

Perry is survived by his daughter Sophie and his son Jack.
