Time Is Nearly up to Upgrade to Windows 10 for Free

Windows 8.1 is dead. Well, it’s not dead like Windows 3.1 is dead, but Microsoft has officially ended support for the five-year-old operating system. This means that there will be no future updates, no added functionality, and no bug fixes. The only thing that this OS will receive is security updates, and even those will only last for the next five years or so. That being said, if you’re hoping to get a free upgrade to Windows 10, you better act fast!

When Microsoft announced that there would be a one-year deadline for a free upgrade to Windows 10, they left a loophole that extended that time to people who use assistive technologies, such as screen readers or Braille keyboards. And the best part about the loophole is that Microsoft didn’t check to see if users actually qualified for the upgrade.

Microsoft originally told us that this opportunity to upgrade would expire on December 31, 2017. However, they apparently decided to hold open the upgrade window until January 16, 2018. Of course, we don’t know if this is really the close date or if they will extend it again, but it’s safe to say that time is running out and that if you haven’t upgraded yet, you really should soon. Like today soon…

To take advantage of this offer, head over to Microsoft’s assistive technology site and follow the instructions.
